What I'm playing...

In light of my recent birthday, I have attained a PS3. So here is what I am currently playing:

 • Fallout 3: I managed to get my hands on the Game of the Year edition that came out on the thirteenth. Although, I haven't started any of the DLCs yet. I have read in places that the DLC on the PS3 does not work, so here's to hoping! Oh, and this game is just simply amazing, if you haven't bought/played it.
 • Oblivion: Do I really have to explain this one? :D It's nice to finally return to Cyrodiil and talk about mudcrabs!
 • Assassin's Creed: I was a little thrown off when it I found out the game is set on the premise of reliving the ancestors life... it seems really... Matrix-y to me. I have enjoyed what I have played so far, so I hope it keeps going well.
 • Grand Theft Auto IV: This is easily one of my all-time favorite games. It is a masterpiece that builds on the shortcomings of the games before it (I don't care what you say, San Andreas sucked). And plus, I can spend hours just driving around... Liberty City (aka New York). This game just makes me smile (although the fighting could be a little bit better).

I plan on getting more games soon. Ones that I have my eye on are the Uncharted Series and Assassin's Creed II. Any good games that are PS3-platform specific that I should look into?

To try and keep up with Bethesda's latest What We're Playing here's a short list of what I've been entertaining myself with lately:

 • Wolfenstein -- I picked this up shortly after my last playing list and finished it last week. A fun enough game well worth my money but the reviews of the game I've read pretty much nailed the good and bad of the game. Its a decent FPS with a twist (veil "magic") and some great boss fights but I think it tried to take itself too seriously and force the plot onto you by overly long and complex cut scenes. A simpler and less serious "you're a hero, kill Nazis" plot would have worked just as well, like in the very original.

Ok, a *really* short list but I tend to focus on one game at a time, particularily when it involves having to swap DVDs. I'm not sure how all those folks at Bethesda have time to play all those games. I suppose it helps when you're working in the gaming industry so playing games can be considered "research". If only I could figure a way of convincing people at work that playing Oblivion is somehow relevant to electromagnetic non-destructive testing.

Hey there readers! In order to keep up with the minor tradition, here is what I am playing at the moment.

 • Nothing!

I know, it is rather upsetting, but my 360 received the infamous red ring of death way back in March. I haven't been able to get a new one, but I plan to mooch one off of my parents for my upcoming birthday this week.

So to provide more insight into how I play games, here is my Top 10 list:

 1. Mass Effect
 2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
 3. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
 4. Kingdom Hearts
 5. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
 6. Bioshock
 7. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
 8. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
 9. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
 10. Halo: Combat Evolved

Yeah... I don't necessarily go outside my comfort zone in video games much. Mass Effect is my top because of the depth of the game, and the fact that I nerd out hard to space fantasy (SG-1/SGU anyone?). Also, the combat game is beyond fluid, so it is comparable to reading a book. Of course, TES games are on there as well, except Arena (because it sucks). I have always been a fan of the Zelda series, even though it does predate me. And last, Halo is a great game, and the story in the first one is exceptionally done.

So more about me. I am a huge sports fan: the Colts, Pacers, Fever, Carl Edwards, and Michael Phelps are my favorites in their respective areas. I can basically watch all of the with the same enthusiasm, so I don't have a favorite except the NFL. So I might make some sports posts if people show interest (but most people who like video games and wikis... don't like sports :p ).

So that is basically my generic Welcome post, hope you enjoy reading in the future!

Eshe-is-playing, Eshe lists!

I've been trying to come up with something to write about, so I thought I would play off Daveh's "what we're playing" post and see where it gets me. My list is short. Are you ready?

 • Mirror's Edge: This is the only game I've really played in the last couple of months. Now, I'll admit the game has a lot of problems, like the combat. I can take 30 bullets and still run a kajillion miles an hour, but three hits to the face with a rifle butt and I'm dead? Are you serious? But even with those problems, I've enjoyed this game immensely ever since it came out. It's a unique and well-executed idea, the design is great, the music is awesome, and most importantly, it's really fun.

I told you it was a short list. And because it's so pathetically short, I'm going to supplement it with my Top Five Games of All Time!

 1. Final Fantasy VII
 2. Xenogears
 3. Final Fantasy XII
 4. Final Fantasy X
 5. Kingdom Hearts

Yeah, I'm kind of a Final Fantasy nerd, but don't hold it against me ;). I'd actually never heard of FF until I was about 13, so believe me when I say I've played a lot of other games too!

Other games I play often but don't make the list include: Dragon Quest VIII, Portal, Heavenly Sword, Assassin's Creed, and the Legend of Zelda Series.

I've always liked the "What we're playing" regular section on the Bethesda Blog (a definite regular read if you are an Elder Scrolls or Bethesda fan) so I will occasionally do a similar post of what I've been playing lately.

 • Fallout 3 -- I've recently purchased the last 2 or 3 DLCs and am currently finishing up Broken Steel. While the game and its DLCs have its fair share of critics I've immensely enjoyed all of them.
 • Majesty 2 -- A game/series I wasn't at all familiar with until I read about on the Bethesda Blog, I've been playing this game on my laptop when traveling. Its a fun little casual strategy game which is perfect as I've never been very good at complex strategy games. I'll also have to look into the original Majesty which fans of the series appear to think is the better of the two.
 • Everquest -- I don't play nearly as much EQ as I used to but there's been a few recent content additions to the game that I'm gone and checked out. Typically I'm three-boxing when I play which I know is terribly anti-social of me but is by far the least stressful mode of playing. I tried a pickup group the other day which was basically two hours of me thinking "What are you doing?!?".

I haven't seen any games coming out in the near future that particularly interest me other than the new Wolfenstein which looks mildly entertaining. I only feel slightly guilty of having no Elder Scrolls titles in the above list. I did restart Oblivion a few months ago playing a magic based character (all my previous characters were stealth/warrior based) which I'll have to pick up again.
