Elder Scrolls Online launched their extremely controversial Crown Crates this week. After having followed this on the PTS and deciding to give it a shot with some of the Crowns I still had sitting around, I thought I'd share what I think about it and my experiences with it.  I seem to have been particularly lucky, but the system definitely could use some major changes....

Did they really have to use Pacrooti?

A Look at Boxed Battlespire

the entire contents of the boxI recently went through my ES collection, thinking about all the stories behind each item.  One of my favorite things in my collection is a boxed copy of Battlespire: not because I like the game exactly (it proved to be too glitchy and laggy to be playable), but because it's fun to look at and it was a lucky find.  While I'd been watching on eBay, any boxed editions were few and far between (and way too expensive; the few I saw were like upwards of $200). Then I was browsing my local Craigslist one day and there happened to be one - usually the only games you see around here are the type of thing you'd find in the bargain bin at Walmart - and the seller also happened to work just two blocks away from where I was going to karate at the time, so it was meant to be.

The box isn't exactly in pristine condition, but it contains all the original inserts, which are an entertaining read, partly because some of them are written humorously, partly because of just how old they are. ("Battlespire is the first installement of the new series, which we have entitled the 'Legend Series'..... 'The first chapter of the new Adventure Series is entitled Redguard'".... "Which other game systems do you own? Saturn, N64, Playstation"...)

Read after the break to take a closer look at all the inserts (and feel free to click on each image to view a bigger version if you want to read them!)

Damon's Adventures: The Last Days of the Dragonborn

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm back with another Adventures post -- the epilogue to the Skyrim save I was running at the start of the year on my brother's PlayStation before I moved away.

About a week before I left, I had accomplished all the main goals I had in mind for the roleplaying of the Imperial Legionnaire Damon, did all the expansions, did the Main Quest, faffed around a bit exploring and being basically a noble sword-for-hire, etc, and I got bored with the lack of direction to the save and realised it was time to wrap it up once and for all.

Because I have a penchant for creative writing and the mood struck me a few days after that save concluded, I wrote up this epilogue here. A letter to no one from an undisclosed place where Damon, an old man at this point, is nearing the end of his days and has decided to take up a quill and inkwell one last time to jot down the last of his thoughts for the last time.

This thing has been sitting on the Google Docs text document I wrote it on since March, and I decided that I wanted to share it with whoever wanted to read it and bring a proper closure to the Skyrim run.

Ladies and gentlemen, guys and gals, how's it going? I'm back with Update 2 of most likely only two on my adventures in The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.

As I mentioned in the last blog post, I had created Mathyn Aris, a Dunmer sorcerer of the Daggerfall Covenant, I gave the brief overview of the tutorial area looking cool, prattled on about the variety of options to character creation in ESOTU, and I promised I'd return with part two of the blog post for the introduction of the game to me, which we'd cap off at the end of Stros M'kai.

Well, I lied, Stros M'kai, while pretty to look at, was short enough to get through for the quests that push the story and get me out of the area that I decided to include Betnikh in it. And, the merry band that I put together in Stros M'kai came along and were again instrumental in helping with this new zone, so I figured the two were both related, since I had to do both to hit the mainland.

Damon's Adventures: #ESOTU 1 - Character Creation/Tutorial

“Three nations are vying for the Ruby Throne amidst the threat of Molag Ball's imminent invasion of Tamriel. The Aldmeri Dominion, the Daggerfall Covenant, and the Ebonheart Pact. I think they're fools the lot of them, losing men and women to fighting against each other for an old chair when there are greater things at stake!

“The High King of Skyrim has sent word across all the lands that loyal Nords, Dunmer, and Argonians are to return to their homelands and take up arms in the war between these three alliances. Am I a loyal Dunmer for answering the calls to defend the homeland, or am I a disloyal Dunmer because my homeland is Daggerfall?

“No matter what the Nord king and the Dunmer say, my home is in Northpoint. I was born and raised there, and I've never once set foot in Morrowind. I've never once prayed to ALMSIVI.

“I am Mathyn Aris, a Dunmer sorcerer from Northpoint, and I've answered the call to arms from King Emeric and the Daggerfall Covenant. May the Divines watch over me in this turbulent time.”
--Mathyn Aris' journal
